Immigration Reform/ SAY NO to Secure Communities Program

The Brazilian Immigrant Center believes the comprehensive immigration reform is vital to its mission of fighting for social and economic justice.  Included in its support for comprehensive immigration reform, BIC also supports the DREAM ACT and is against the Secure Communities program.         Since December 2010 BIC has been working with Centro Presente to fight against this unjust program that only encourages racial profiling and discourages immigrant witnesses or victims of crime from coming forward.  BIC organizers regularly attend meetings. During the summer BIC attended all of the governor's town hall meetings about Secure Communities.  After a great deal of work we were incredibly happy to see that Governor Deval Patrick opted the state of Massachusetts out of the program.
